The Essex Linux Users Group are pleased to announce that their third meeting, (the first of 1997), will take place next Saturday 22nd March at the offices of Brendata in Laindon, Basildon, Essex.
The doors will open at 10.00 and the first hour set aside for general chit-chat and the setting up of a local network (10baseT/2) by those who bring along their PC's, before the meeting formally gets under way at 1100.
A brief opening speech by Geoff Blake will be followed by a presentation on Perl by Alec Clews and after a suitable recess will continue with a talk about Linux in the workplace entitled, "Linux: Office Applications", by Clive Messer.
After a break for lunch at a local pub, Peter Onion, (who gave the excellent presentation on the version 2.X.X kernels at ELUG-1), will be talking about Visual Tk/Tcl - the Linux answer to Visual Basic.
Running as a parallel stream to the presentations will be an Installfest. On hand will be facilities and assistance to install or upgrade Linux on your PC via NFS, FTP or CDROM. It is intended to have most popular distributions available and possibly a direct connection to the Internet.
Finally, the meeting will be concluded with a draw. One lucky person will return home with a full copy of Applix office suite thanks to the kind folks at RedHat.
Please send email to elug@palaemon.demon.co.uk if you require any further assistance.
Many thanks to RedHat Software Inc for the Applixware package and to Steve Hanselman for making the premises available.
