Thanks to Steve Hanselman's kind invitation, thirteen members of ELUG gathered at the Brendata offices in Laindon on Saturday 31st August.
We had two excellent talks and since everything over-ran the planned agenda (doesn't time fly when you're having fun?), we had to accept Clive Messer's offer to postpone his talk on Linux Office Applications until a later date. Watch this space.
Alec Clews presented on the theory and practice of encryption using Pretty Good Privacy (PGP), and gave all those that wanted it a disk with the software. I had very little knowledge about PGP and came away much wiser (well, better informed, anyway).
Ivan Beveridge presented InterNet News (INN) and its configuration which created much interest and great discussion on news servers in general. Naturally the great INN versus C News debate was continued here.
Lunch was taken in the beer garden of a rather good Public House, until ever increasing spots of rain drove us indoors to savour the food, the beer and good conversation.
What else? Well, kernels were compiled, machines were networked, and several different Linux distributions were demonstrated. The latest CDs (just arrived the previous day) were pressed into service. There were probably lots of other things going on I didn't notice whilst enjoying myself.
The facilities were great (thanks again Steve) and I think that a good time was had by all. ELUG-3 is being planned and a Christmas multi-LUG bash has been suggested ...
