A little while ago, I received a mail from Lisa Sullivan at RedHat ....
Recently, we (a bunch of folks at Red Hat) were talking about user groups and schools and their relationship to the Linux community. The general consensus was that they are extremely important to the success of the Linux movement as a whole. We've decided that whenever an opportunity arises where we are able to donate software, we will. Such an opportunity has just come about. We will have a limited amount of surplus copies of the Red Hat Linux 4.0 Archives and the Red Hat 4.0 Manual. BTW, Red Hat Linux 4.0 was just named Infoworld's "Desktop Operating System of the Year", tied with Windows NT. Distribution of these products will be on a first come, first serve basis.
I responded to the above and then completely forgot about it until ......
On Tuesday, I received the following reply from Theresa Egan ....
Thank you for your interest in Red Hat Software. The response to our offer was overwhelming. I did my best to accomodate all of your requests. You should expect the shipments in 2-3 weeks. I enjoyed hearing from all of you and hope that your many diverse endeavors with Red Hat Linux turn out well. If you have any questions or concerns feel free to contact me.
Well, so much for the 2-3 weeks! I returned home tonight to find a package had been delivered to ELUG c/o me, and am pleased to announce that it contained:
Well, we could just give away all the software at the next meet, but it would seem more sensible to keep some copies for group, rather than individual use.
